Registration of Qualifications

Upon the registration of an Institution by the Authority as a Qualifications Awarding Body (QAB), the QAB submits its programmes or courses of study leading to the award of a qualification to the Authority for registration on the National Qualification Framework.

Who Should Apply?

All Registered QABs by the Authority. Registration of Qualifications shall encompass the following and their corresponding meaning:

  1. Registration of a Qualification - refers to the registration of programmes or courses of study that lead to the award of a qualification conferred by local QABs, having met the requirements of the NQF. This also includes professional qualifications, micro-credentials, part-qualifications and short courses.
  2. Certificate of Qualifications Equivalence (Foreign QAB) - This refers to the process of ensuring that foreign qualifications offered by foreign QABs comply with the Kenya National Qualifications framework.
  3. Certificate of Qualifications Equivalence (Local QAB) - This refers to the process of ensuring that foreign qualifications awarded by local QABs conform to the requirements of the National Qualifications Framework.

Key Requirements

  1. Proof of statutory mandate to award a qualification;
  2. Proof of approval of the programme or course of study by the relevant regulatory body where applicable
  3. Duly filled in Digital Application Form KNQF 5
  4. Attachment of the Curriculum or syllabus of the programme or course of study that leads to a qualification.

For Foreign Qualifications:

In addition to the above, the application for registration of Foreign QABs they provide:

  1. Proof of approval of the foreign qualifications from the respective regulatory body, professional body, quality standards or industry standards, whichever is applicable;
  2. A copy of a written agreement where the institution is collaborating with another institution; and
  3. A copy of the Certificate of Compliance from the Registrar of Companies.
